It was developed to support initial testing, visualization, and evaluation of potential BAC spatial boundaries.</div><div><br /></div><div>What are Block Area Closures (BACs)?</div><div><br /></div><div>Block Area Closures are designated areas in federal waters where trawl or non-trawl fishing may be prohibited to mitigate the bycatch of groundfish and protected species.</div><div><br /></div><div>BAC polygons are bounded:</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>North and South: By a defined line of latitude or the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) boundary.</div><div><br /></div><div>East and West: By regulatory boundary lines that approximate depth contours or the EEZ boundary.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Current Status & Scope</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Exploratory & Non-Operational: This feature service is a working draft currently being evaluated for potential analytical and operational use.
